Filming Diary

On the day of filming, the actors turned up to the location at 12:00pm. We made sure everyone was in costume and sorted out any necessary props. Once we had done this we set about filming.

We decided to film the shots in chronological order because the events were supposed to take place in one day and evening, this meant that we had to film the shots in the right order so that the daylight for the shots were correct for example a shot of the morning had to be done in broad daylight however the sleepover scene had to take place at duck/ in the evening.

After we had finished filming we went home and then uploaded what we had filmed at school the following Monday. When we looked back at what we had filmed, some of the shots were not what we had hoped. This meant that we had to re-film some shots.

We then used the times we had left to film the remaining shots of Josh walking into the toilets with the book which didn't take long because our actor already knew what he needed to do.

When we then uploaded this, it fitted much better to what we had hoped so this was what featureed in our final film opening.

Rough Cut 2

Here is our Rough Cut 2. There have been some major changes to this rough cut compared to rough cut 1. We have taken out our first stalker scene and replaced it with a new one which we feel has more suitable props, lighting and location and overall works better for the film. We have taken out the through the window shot as we feel it didn't make much sense and also made the film look unprofessional. We have added titles now and we can see it coming together more and more, all we need to add now is music and tweak some editing.

Rough Cut 1

This is our first rough cut. We have not yet added titles or music but have edited the clips to ensure that they are suitable and taken out any unwanted shots. We have got the rough copy of how the film opening will run but are still improving it. Overall at this stage of our work we are happy with the outcome of the first rough cut and can see it coming together.

List of Scenes in our Film Opening

Scene 1: The first scene will be the three girl characters walking along a road and saying hello to our main male character. We then see the main female character turn round and smile at the main male character and he turns back to smile at her. We hope this shows a relationship forming between them.

Scene 2: The second scene is the three girls all sitting on the bed together talking about different subjects.

Scene 3: The third scene is of the girls sitting on the bed together still but this is a shot of the outside looking through the window to the girls. This gives the idea that somebody is watching them.

Scene 4: This scene is of the main female character received a text saying 'you look good in pink'. The other girls carry on talking but the main character looks scared and distressed at the text she has received.

Scene 5: There is a change In scenes here as we enter a room where a hooded boy enters so we cant see his face, holding  a book. He opens the book and we see photos of the main girl character in the book. He caresses the photos and lifts one up to kiss it. This presents him as being a stalker.

Scene 6: We are back in the room with the girls and the main female character says she needs the toilet. She then leaves the rooms and heads down the stairs and leaves the house. A black screen then appears with 'one year later' on it.

Final Casting Decisions

Lucy:
We chose Bethany Ironmonger to play Lucy in THAT STALKED YEAR. We felt she fitted the look we were looking for to play Lucy very well.  We wanted somebody that comes across as vulnerable and naive to the audience in order for them to worry and care about her and we feel Bethany plays this part very well. She fits the look we were going for with Lucy as well which is a blonde who is pretty and this is what attracts the stalker to her.

Josh:
We were unsure on who to use to play Josh in our film opening as we weren't sure how we wanted him to be. After some thought we decided Jack Jolly would be perfect to play the role of Josh. We feel he fits the role of 'boy next door' and we do not suspect him to be the stalker.

Amelie:
We knew from the offset that Ellie Fitch would be the perfect person to fit the role of Amelie. She is very similar to the character herself as we wanted her to love shopping which Ellie does and always interested in the latest fashions. Amelie is the closest to Lucy out of all the friends and Ellie and Bethany are good friends and this really stands out in the opening as there is chemistry between them.

Madison:
We chose Aimee to play Madison as they are very similar. Aimee is quiet and keeps herself to herself and this is how we wanted Madison to be. You can really see in the opening that the bigger characters are Lucy and Amelie whereas Madison who Aimee plays takes it in but says very little and we feel Aimee plays this part very well.

Film Locations

We have chosen to base our film at my house. To show the first shot we will use the road outside my house. It is the perfect place to film this as it is a straight road with a nice view and is quite so it is safe for us to film there. The next shot we used is my bedroom, any girly bedroom would have been suitable but as I have white walls I feel it made the room brighter therefore we didn't have to rely on lighting that would have made the shot more yellow. The next shot we used was a room that was being decorated at my house we think this is suitable as it is an empty room and gives off the stalker vibe. The final scene we used my stairs and hallway and front of my house. This worked well as it is all in one place and was easy to film also the lighting outside my house shows the time of day but also gives good enough lighting to show the shot.

We have decided to change the stalker shot. After placing the shot in our piece it is obvious the room is in the same house and also we feel it is too bright and does not look like the creepy atmosphere we wanted it too. We have re-done our shot in one of the school toilets. We feel this is suitable as it makes it looked even creepier and gives the feel of a thriller more than the bedroom. Also the lighting is more suitable as it is low key.

Organising Sound

We are muting the audio on a lot of our film opening and adding suitable sound over the top that links with the genre. This sound is in IMovie and has been stored there. The sound does need a lot of organising but we do need to run through the script a few times with the actresses to ensure they have their lines correctly.

Organising Props and Costumes

We had already made sure that we had all the props that we needed in the locations that we were filming in and we had given our actors a list of options, with pictures, of what would be appropriate for them to wear for filming. They arrived to the location wearing suitable clothes for their character and they closely resembled the pictures we had given them.

Once we had started filming, we had everything we needed to complete filming.

Final Props

Our Final props list included A book with pictures of Lucy that Josh is looking through and the furniture in the room such the bed which the girls are sat on and any bedroom furniture etc.

We decided not to include any ropes/ties of any sort as we thought that this would give away too much to the audience too soon. We also decided not to use any tables and chairs and felt it would be more appropriate for our male character to sit on the floor.

Costume Ideas

We have created a mood board and a page of ideas for each character to come up with ideas or costumes for our characters in the different scenes. We will upload our final choice of costumes for each character in another post.

In the sleepover scene they will all need pyjamas, we have decided to look at pyjamas that are similar (style-wise) to their clothes and each of their own styles for example 'girly' or 'alternative' or 'grunge' etc.

This is Amelie's style. We believe she would wear more likely dresses than jeans and a t-shirt and most likely light/pastel colours, floral prints, ruffles and heels. Accessorised with jewellery and handbags. This shows her extravagant and at times, melodramatic personality.
This is Lucy's Style. We believe she would predominantly wear casual clothes but still manage a glamorous look, this reflects her effortless popularity.
Madison's style reflects her personality showing that she's not afraid to be different and does what she wants to do to a certain degree, she does not feel the need to impress others over her own desires.

The character of Thea would wear a 'preppy' smart/casual collection of clothes, again reflecting her studious attitude and guarded/formal nature.

Josh has two different outfit types. We see him as a normal boy attending high school with the girls and wears casual clothes, he appears quiet and sensitive, his modest personality fools the girls into thinking he's an innocent character. He is secretly obsessed with Lucy and becomes her stalker, when doing this, to avoid exposure, wears all black. A hoodie, black jeans/tracksuit bottoms and black shoes. This makes it harder for the girls to discover his identity.

These are some possibilities for the pyjamas that will be worn by the girls in the sleepover scene.

Audition Script

Lucy Auditions:
How do you feel you will fit the role of Lucy?
How will you ensure that we really see Lucys personality in THAT STALKED YEAR?

We are doing Lucys auditions first as we feel she is the most important character in the opening and we need time to ensure we have found the perfect Actress.

Josh Auditions:
How will you fit the role of Josh?
How will you ensure that you character comes across as the 'boy next year' and not the stalker?

We are doing Josh's auditions next as we feel he is also an important character in THAT STALKED YEAR and want to ensure that he comes across in the correct manner to ensure that the audience have no suspicions that he is the stalker.

Casting celebrities for The Stalked Year

Lucy Ford - Amber Heard (victim)

When I stumbled across Amber whilst researching into blonde actresses I knew that she was who we were looking for to play Lucy. She has a pretty face and looks innocent which is what we want. Her attractive physic will be one of the reasons why Josh becomes obsessed with her whilst fooling the audience into thinking that she is naïve and girly when in reality she loves to play mind games and holds a dirty secret.

Josh Carter - Carter Jenkins (stalker/kidnapper)

The character of Josh is tricky. At first we wanted him to be a quiet, "nerdy" boy you wouldn't suspect but after some thought we decided that would be too common so we went for a character who wouldn't be popular but not quiet, kind of like a "boy next door" kind of character. We chose Carter Jenkins to play Josh because he is exactly how we pictured the 'villain'. His good looks will make the female audience interested in the film and will trick them into thinking he is a nice guy.

Amelie Peters- Julianne Hough (friend #1)

Amelie is type of character to love shopping. Retail therapy is the best medicine when it comes to her. She is always wearing the latest designer brands. Amelie and Lucy have been friends since they were 5 years old which means that Amelie is the closest to Lucy than any of the other girls. Julianne Hough will be our Amelie because we think, just by looking at her, she fits the role of shop-o-holic and 'dumb' blonde, which is how Amelie is portrayed.

Madison Cavanagh -  Willa Holland (friend #2)

Madison is a character who loves art. Her innocent look gives her a pure edge that lures people in. She is a painter and loves to paint portraits. She is quiet and keeps herself to herself which is why people wonder why she is friends with Amelie and Lucy as she is a complete opposite. We chose Willa to play Madison because she is how we would imagine someone to look who is quiet and is artistic.

Thea Jamieson - Maia Mitchell (friend #3)

Thea is the type of character that everyone can't help but be fond of. She is smart and outgoing but knows what's right and wrong. She loves to solve things which is why she has to solve who took Lucy and why, with a little help from her friends. Thea has never got along with Lucy as well as the other girls have. Madison and Thea are better friends with each other than the others. Maia looks like a high school student which is one of the reasons why we chose her. She looks like an intelligent girl which is what we are looking for.

Cody Wilding - Ryan Guzman (Lucy's boyfriend)

Even though the character of Cody is not shown in the opening, he is shown later in the film. We pictured Cody as Ryan Guzman because he can be portrayed as a nice guy or a bad guy. We know that we want Ryan to play Cody as the heartthrob guy of the school. Lucy and Ryan are the 'it' couple which fuels Josh's jealousy even more. Ryan's attractive physic will attract females to watch the film.

Mise en Scene Considerations

The use of  Mise en Scene is important in our film opening. In the stalker scene we need the lighting to be low key and this is important so we have to decide on a location that has good lighting. We also need to ensure that you can see where the setting is using the shots as some of the shot are important like the fact the stalker is in a toilet. We have had to re-film certain parts of our film due to setting and lighting not being appropriate so we re-filmed to ensure this has been improved and therefore make a more polished professional film.
We have selected the style of our costume so we can show the personality of our characters through this.
